One Body, One Church

We Christians sometimes underestimate ourselves. Sometimes we feel that we are less important compare to the other members of the Church (capital “C” because what I mean here is the people of God and not the place or building built by man). Minsan gumagawa or nag-iimbento tayo ng isang klase ng pyramid-style na social class system tulad noong unang panahon, na we put those very big and famous Christian preachers at the top, then our pastors and missionaries, and lastly, ourselves at the bottom.

We should never feel this way that we are less important than others or that others are far way more significant that us. Remember that we are all important as members of the body of Christ.

Let’s take for example sa isang katawan ng tao, masasabi mo ba na mas importante yung tenga mo kaysa sa mata mo? O na mas importante yung mga kamay mo kaysa sa mga paa mo? ‘Di ba hindi? Kasi magkaiba sila ng function or purpose so you can’t compare them and say na mas significant yung isa mong body part kaysa doon sa isa. We may be really different from one another but that doesn’t lessen or affect our significance being a member of God’s people. Well, it takes all kinds of people who loves all kinds of things to keep us all going in general.

And another thing, human body again as an example. ‘Di ba yung katawan natin is binubuo ng different parts like hands, feet, ears, eyes, etc.? Bakit, may nakita ka na bang katawan na puro mata lang o puro paa? ‘Di ba wala? Same again with us Christians. We don’t need to be all the same. God planned and made us to be different from one another because we have different roles to play. We may not share the same personalities or gifts but those things will determine the roles that we will play as part of the body of Christ. Just as we are, we can make a contribution right now no matter how young or old we are. Maging ano at sino ka man, as His children and sons/daughters, God can use us anytime, anywhere.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14,18,27 says,

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one spirit we were all baptized into one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”
